Article Abstract:
The retail sector generally does not have the kind of economic impact on a community as manufacturing and other export-based activities. However, it is shown that certain types of retail activity can also generate employment and income. Regional malls, community centers, outlet centers, tourism-related specialty malls, national retail specialty stores and certain local retail stores either bring in expenditures from outside the community or reduce or eliminate retail expenditure leakages from it.
