SPAIN: FORD RE-ORGANISES ITS BUSINESS
Article Abstract:
From Nov 1st 2000, Spanish subsidiary of Ford, Ford Espana, has a new managing director, Mr. Machado. As part of its European re-structuring, Ford Espana will transfer construction of Zetec engines to Wales, and will quit production of HCS engines in 2001. The company, which produces models KA and focus, expects to obtain the construction of I4 engines in the future. In 1999, Ford Espana posted Pta 798mn profits and Pta 711,171mn sales from Pta 6,021mn profits and Pta 618,468mn sales registered in 1998. In period Jan-Sep 2000 sales represented 89,16 units, amounting to 8.25% of market, which is a low market quota compared to 14.41% market share obtained in 1995, when sales reached 120,305 cars.

SPAIN/FRANCE: POSTAL ALLIANCE
Article Abstract:
Spanish postal authority Correos has established an agreement with La Poste of France, the sixth largest world-wide, aimed at blocking expansion in Europe of the largest postal operators. There are four main points to the agreement: the purchase of a 50% stake in Chronopost Espana (courier) by Correos; promote international correspondence between France and Spain; an option for both operators to set up a large courier and express parcel service; and joint development of hybrid mail. The main goal is to become the third largest operator through the alliance. The operators' joint market share is 5%.
