Scowls across the Atlantic
Article Abstract:
American legistators are growing more dissatisfied with Western Europe. Western Europeans are not particularly hospitable to American troops. Many feel the Europeans are not contributing enough to their country's defense. Troop reduction in Europe continues to be an issue of debate. Another complaint is the Europeans' inability to deal with current economic conditions. New policies are not being implemented. This mood, although not outright hostility, has been present for a number of years, and is not exclusive to conservatives.

The Vatican Rag
Article Abstract:
The United States will appoint a fully-fledged ambassador to the Vatican in the near future. Diplomatic relations with the Vatican were broken off in 1867, and have been carried on since then only in an unofficial capacity. There remains substantial opposition to the resumption of full-scale diplomatic relation, especially from religious leaders. Even many American Roman Catholics oppose the move. Relations between the Vatican and the American Catholic church are somewhat strained.
