Article Abstract:
Contingent ownership structures in joint ventures offer investment incentives for the involved parties. Relationship-specific and efficient investments given sequentially by both venture partners will create a joint surplus for the future. These results indicate the value of option contracts on ownership rights as an efficiency catalyst, although the impact of renegotiation and uncertainty must also be addressed.
