Signs of progress
Article Abstract:
Signs of progress abound on NIC Asia's doorstep in four emerging markets, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Low labor costs are the common denominator. Skills are not highly developed uniformly, but they are becoming more so. Bangladesh has unbalanced trade with Asia in the area of commodities and manufactured goods. Exports to Hong Kong SAR are showing signs of success in a campaign to get some balance. India is rapidly dismantling complex import regulations. Indonesia is still a huge market for manufactured goods from other places. Vietnam must find a way to make new contacts.
