Social distance and other-regarding behavior in dictator games: reply
Article Abstract:
Iris Bohnet and Bruno S. Frey's alternate set of experiments with social distance as the main variable in the other-regarding behavior of dictators produced results which Elizabeth Hoffman, et al, do not consider as contrasting from those arrived at by their study. The possibility for reciprocity and identification are intertwined as interpretive hypotheses. Thus, two way identification which is proposed by Bohnet and Frey leads to the possibility of positive and negative reciprocity.

Social distance and other-regarding behavior in dictator games: comment
Article Abstract:
Elizabeth Hoffman, et al's study on other-regarding behavior is evaluated in order to discriminate between identifiability-based and reciprocity-based other-regardedness. A variation in the degree of social distance is used together with the dictator game. The results showed that the identifiability of the involved individuals exerted an influence rather than expectations of reciprocity. Hence, reciprocity in the context of Hoffman et al's study is too broadly applied.
