The Christian Democratic premier of Baden-Wurttemberg, West Germany, Lothar Spath, headed for re-election on March 25, 1984. The healthy economic climate of Baden-Wurttemberg may be partially attributed to Spath's foresight and aggressiveness. He promotes high-technology industry and many mid-sized companies in Baden-Wurttemberg are achieving international recognition in their particular field.

Waiting for the Wende
Article Abstract:
West Germany's Kohl administration promised an economic turnaround. Public spending was to be curbed. Private sector profits were encouraged. After a slow start, the economy started improving in fall 1983. Exports were particulary successful in winter 1983-1984. Government is helping industry with such aids as tax cuts. Graphs are included.
