Staying in touch with Asia

Article Abstract:

The foreign trade relations between Austria and Asia has been affected by the Asian economic crisis which began with the devaluation of the Thai Baht in July 1997. However, even with cancellations, delays, and decreasing trade most Austrian businesses will attempt to maintain business relations with Asia as long as possible. In some areas it has become easier for Austrian and Asian firms to engage in new business relationships and ventures.

Quality control programs can assist Asian businesses to decrease production costs because factory waste is reduced and customer returns are also reduced. This reduction in production costs is more than enough to pay for employee quality training. Responsibility for quality is dependent upon every employee throughout the production process.

Siemens Building Technologies of Switzerland has completed a major complex in Asia in order to better serve its customers in the region. The company will employ 30,000 in Asia and projects a financial turnover of $4.9 bil. Headquarters of the new company will be in Hong Kong.
