Survival of the fittest? An analysis of self-employment duration in Britain
Article Abstract:
The duration of self-employment spells in the UK is investigated using data from the British Household Panel Survey. Results indicate that survival rates among self-employed people in the UK are significantly lower than those among participants of the Enterprise Allowance Scheme (EAS). Specifically, 40% of self-employed ventures started since 1991 have not survived their first year of operation. In addition, a considerable proportion of self-employment spells are terminated through moves to alternative employment and not through bankruptcy.

The target zone model, non-linearity and mean reversion: is the honeymoon really over?
Article Abstract:
A target zone model is estimated for three ERM foreign exchange rates over the years 1983-1986 and 1987-1991 using the simulated moments technique. The approach takes into consideration the continuous time specification by using daily data with the interruptions of weekends and holidays. The estimates indicate a linear relationship between the exchange rate and the fundamentals. In addition, it may be possible to have a fully credible target zone in which the so-called honeymoon effect is very slight.

Analysing credibility in high-inflation countries: a new approach
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine procedural methods for measuring credibility impact in countries with high inflation. The study considers the split of the parallel foreign exchange market premium into fundamental and non-fundamental components and focuses on the Brazilian Cruzado plan of 1986. Results show that the non-fundamental variable exhibits credibility descriptions and provides a negative correlation with inflation levels.
