Sweep accounts, reserve management, and interest rate volatility
Article Abstract:
On a study on concerns that reductions in reserve balances increases volatility of interest rates and reduces monetary policy effectiveness, this paper concludes that such reductions have not impinged on the ability of the Federal Reserve to conduct monetary policy in the manner that it has in recent years.

Replacement of cash by cards in U.S. consumer payments
Article Abstract:
The share of payments made with cash, checks, and cards over the past 25 years in the United States is studied. Checks may be reduced even further in the near future due to new developments in banking transactions, but cash is not likely to be replaced completely anytime soon.
