The contributions of Amartya Sen to welfare economics
Article Abstract:
Among the many contributions made by Amartya Sen to the field of economics is his critique of welfare economics. According to Sen, individual utilities should not be the sole basis of a theory of welfare. Rather, he favored the adoption of a broader view that would take into account information about health, longevity and morbidity. But what distinguishes Sen's critique is his alternative to welfarism. His advocacy for a standard of living based on a person's capability and not on characteristics and commodities has generated widespread interest in his studies.

The circulation of euro banknotes and coins in the Netherlands
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to forecast the euro circulation needed in the Netherlands in 2002. Two techniques were utilized to carry out the analysis. The first utilized econometric frameworks characterizing the demand for banknotes and coins. The other used the estimated over-the-counter payments in 2002 to compute the required notes and coins. Results suggested that forecasts determined from the two methods will be too high. In addition, the actual use of cash in 2002 may be lower because of the widespread introduction of electronic money.
