The emergence of mass unemployment: wages and employment in shipbuilding between the wars
Article Abstract:
The conflict between the macroeconomic analysis of the overall employment problem and the macroeconomic experience of the shipping industry was analyzed. The impact of wage changes on shipbuilding employment was emphasized. Acquisition of excess capacity as a result of war and post-war boom and subsequent demand side problems were shown to be the causes of employment problems of the industry.
