The evolution of the industrial organisation of the production of knowledge
Article Abstract:
The institutional formation of an actual market for knowledge has been the driving force behind the creation of the new knowledge industry. There are three main elements in this process: the deverticalization of knowledge-production activities from the boundaries of companies, the specialization of independent companies in the production of knowledge and technical expertise and the specification of a real demand for technological ability. The diffusion of new information technology boosts the connectivity and receptivity of information networks, enhancing the growth of a market for knowledge-intensive business services.

Investment and adoption in advanced telecommunications
Article Abstract:
The factors that influence the international diffusion of advanced telecommunications were determined. The relationship between investment, adoption externality and diffusion was shown to be generally more successful in countries that only recently adopted the telecommunication systems and possess small base of inferior technology, but demostrated fast growth and investments. Advanced countries suffered from the 'locked-in' situation in the electromechanical technology due to lower output and investments and also due to a large base vintage inferior technology.

Technological and organisational change in a process of industrial rejuvenation: the case of the Italian cotton textile industry
Article Abstract:
The Italian textile industry is characterized by small firms which tend to be very specialized and functionally organized. Companies have to adopt rapidly to change if innovations are to spread, and delays may lead to inefficiencies. Organizational difficulties have hampered the adoption of innovations in Italy since the mid 1980s. The government could help by providing aid to tackle information deficiencies. This could include training and infrastructure programs.
