Dysfunction of the State and the weakeneed public safety of the Russian population
Article Abstract:
This article discusses the role of the state in the disorganization of Russian society since the transition to a market economy in the 1990s, focusing on the public's concerns over safety and security. The authors use surveys taken in July 1999 by the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion to assess public concern, finding that after economic policy, security is the issue most concerning Russians; the deterioration of state administration in the era of economic reform is considered a major factor in the criminalization of the economy and the rise in crime in general.
