Trade and project financing in Egypt: local, bilateral, multilateral lending sources
Article Abstract:
Foreign companies doing business in Egypt can avail of different types of trade and project financing from both international and domestic sources in the country. Organizations providing finance in the Egyptian market include domestic banks, the US Agency for International Development, the private sector and specialized UN agencies. There are two formal sources of domestic financing in Egypt: via the banking system and via the emerging securities market. Offshore banks operating in Egypt and the country's local banking system remain the main source of financing for both trade and projects.

The outlook for Gulf banks in light of low oil prices
Article Abstract:
Most banks in the Gulf States were given a financial strength rating of not higher than the D/D+ range by Moody's Investors Service mainly because of low oil prices. The low rating is mainly attributed to the expectation that the credit quality of most Gulf States banks will deteriorate from time to time as the price of oil, which began to slide in 1997, is speculated to continue to stay low. Moreover, the funding structures of Gulf banks make them highly vulnerable to insolvency problems.
