Is synergy due to mystery?
Article Abstract:
Gunter Franke argues that financial products have typical life cycles consisting of four phases. The third phase of demystification, leading to the fourth phase of mass production and debundling, are seen as characteristic of financial products. There are doubts as to whether debundling will always occur, since customers may find their own costs are reduced if they pay more for bundled services, if opportunity costs are taken into account. Efficient contracting can also lead to bundled services.

Financial systems and corporate governance
Article Abstract:
Colin Mayer has examined literature on corporate governance world wide. There is a need to assess the merits of different financial systems following a move toward capitalism in eastern Europe. There may be no dominant financial syste, or we may need a better understanding of how financial systems develop. Models can be established and used to make predictions, but at a time of rapid change they may only serve to describe the past rather than being useful to predict the future.
