U.A.E. health insurance market: mandatory coverage for expatriates boosts interest in private insurance
Article Abstract:
United Arab Emirates' (UAE) health insurance market, specifically private insurance, continues to post significant growth as the country implements a policy mandating a compulsory health coverage for all expatriates. Since the policy's implementation in 1996, the annual growth rate of UAE's health insurance premium ranges between 15% to 20%. The 1996 policy requires all expatriates to obtain a health coverage before they are allowed to undertake a medical fitness test for communicable diseases, which serves as a prerequisite to issuance of a residence visa.

U.A.E.: ceiling on interest...
Article Abstract:
The complexities and uncertainties associated with litigation over interest-bearing transactions in the United Arab Emirates was illustrated by a judgement by the Federal Supreme Court. The supreme court sided with the challenge of a borrower, who defaulted in repaying a loan and in meeting obligations contained in a settlement agreement, to a bank's attempt to collect interest in excess of 12%. On the other hand, it opposes the borrower's challenge to the entirety of the interest owed to the bank.
