Where cattle - not corn - is king
Article Abstract:
It is possible to profitably raise beef cattle with a combination of silage production and management intensive grazing (MIG). MIG, which uses both orchardgrass and alfalfa, has been demonstrated to be capable of producing beef with a cost per pound gain of about $0.23 inclusive of labor, land and other inputs. With beef prices at almost $0.70 per pound, this compares favorably with a 200-bushel per acre production of corn at $2 for every bushel.
