Using theory measurement: an analysis of the cyclical behavior of home production

Article Abstract:

The cyclical behavior between home production and market growth is analyzed using macroeconomic theory. A real business cycle model is formulated with data obtained from CITIBASE while time, market and home sector variables are measured and analyzed. Results reveal a procyclical market hours behavior that is corellated with a high countercyclical movement in leisure and acyclical behavior in nonmarket hours. Results also reveal a cyclical behavior pattern where leisure tends to increase during recessions while nonmarket hours remain steady.

Research into the intuition and computation of a range of semiparametric estimators suggested for the censored regression model is presented. It is argued that, when data are censored, ordinary least squares regression can present misleading estimates.
