Wages, prices and politics: evidence from Norway
Article Abstract:
The relevance of the close association between social democratic parties and the trade union movement in countries with relatively centralized wage bargaining systems is evaluated. The empirical relevance of such a relationship is studied in Norway using time series data. The application of a structural three-equation price-model is used to show that a shift from a bourgeois to a social democratic government substantially cuts wage growth in the manufacturing sector.
