What Dow Makes of the Republicans
Article Abstract:
Republican presidents seem to benefit from a strong stock market their second two years in office. Since 1945 all United States presidents except Ford have seen recession and inflation the first two years of their term and a strong stockmarket in the second two years. President Reagan is faced with the constraint of an overwhelming federal budget deficit.

Article Abstract:
The elections in the United States on November 8, 1983 did not reflect voters' opinions of President Reagan. Voting behavior reflected local issues. The Republican party majority in the Senate was confirmed by the election of Republican, Daniel Evans. Philadelphia elected a black mayor, Wilson Goode.

One Champion Up, Another Down

United States black leader Jesse Jackson has decided to enter the 1984 presidential race. He will draw heavily on the black vote, but will not monopolize it. His areas of concern will be voter registration, local elections, and black issues.
