A case of quality control
Article Abstract:
De Montfort University started operating in South Africa during 1994. The university authorities have tried very hard to ensure the quality of university courses and qualifications reach high standards. It is hoped graduates from the university will go on to help in the rebuilding of South Africa. British staff have worked the university in South Africa. The university teaches business degrees. It has been awarded the South African Qualification Authority and is able to teach the MBA course.

South Africa learns from De Montfort
Article Abstract:
A Cape Town conference of senior South African higher education managers supported the national system for monitoring academic standards. The conference concentrated on strategic planning and the management of change in higher eduction. There is a need to increase the numbers of graduates, expand the subject base and provision for vocational qualifications.

The plans set forward for higher education in South Africa by the Council on Higher Education have not been welcomed by the universities who fear standards would fall and access would be restricted.
