A fugitive from the pigeonhole
Article Abstract:
Bernard Williams the philosopher retired in 1996 from a fellowship at Oxford University in the UK. He is better known than many modern philosophers because of his previous marriage to Labour politician Shirley Williams, his work on royal commissions for the Wilson government and his broadcasting. He has worked as provost of King's College, Cambridge, had a professorship in Berkeley and been White's Professor at Oxford. In his writing he has supported the experience of individuals as opposed to broad philosophical theories.

Article Abstract:
Cultural studies has focused too much on modern culture and so has failed in the UK, according to Colin McCabe, research and education head from the British Film Institute. McCabe also argues that evaluation has been ignored by this subject which has avoided judgements on the quality of works. The subject has focused on the mass media and been linked with challenges to established views from ethnic minorities and women. Modern culture is not easy to analyse due to the number of disciplines involved.
