Jay Pasachoff, astronomer and author, has writtent two standards textbooks on astronomy, and he sees this task as requiring dedication. He has broad interests outside the world of science, which he sees as helping him to be a better author. He heads the astronomy department at Williams College, Massachusetts, which majors in teaching but also has a worthwhile research base. He has also set up a website with new data on astronomy such as information on Uranus's new moons.

Blood on the harpoons
Article Abstract:
The International Whaling Commission (IWC) met in June 1992 to look at proposals from Japan, Norway and Iceland for a resumption of commercial whaling. IWC whale catch limits were set at zero in 1982. Some whale stocks are quite healthy, the Minke whales are not in any danger of extinction. The IWC are researching into the possibility of more humane killing methods.

Health fails to bring in cheque
Article Abstract:
The United Kingdom's National Health Service has almost 260 million pounds sterling to spend on medical research and much of this is spent in London where many of the patients are located. London also has excellent medical schools, but fails to attract research funding from drug firms.
