American gripes about grades
Article Abstract:
Grade inflation in US universities means that a higher proportion of students receive A grades than in the 1950s. Universities need to attract students, and grade inflation is a way of doing so. Standards relating to logic and the general quality of arguments are seen as less important. Administrators for law school and medical school can select according to preferences for non-academic qualities if all students have high grades.
