The plight of the living dead
Article Abstract:
Zombiism, or 'walking dead' is a local phenomenon of Haiti and has its roots in the 1915 occupation of the island by the United States. The Haitian penal code classifies zombification as murder. An investigation into two cases of zombiism using brain scans and DNA testing, designed to ascertain whether zombies are supposedly dead individuals claimed to have been recognized by their families, shows that mistaken identification of itinerant mentally ill strangers is the most likely explanation in most cases.

Land of broken hearts; the plight of America's farmers
Article Abstract:
American agricultural policy since the New Deal has favoured crop subsidies and the creation of 'superfarms.' Some 2,000 farms per week are now being foreclosed and land values have fallen by $146 billion. This has affected the rural economies, and created an underclass comparable to the inner cities. One approach could be to reduce grain production and the use of chemicals, and return to smaller farms using ecologically sound principles of farming.

Plight of the living dead
Article Abstract:
Horror stories about people being buried alive after being pronounced dead may have some factual basis. In the 18th and 19th centuries, there were many tales of premature burial, and it is likely that some were true.
