An energetic quantum leap
Article Abstract:
Academics may work very long hours at the end of the 20th century, with more than 60-hours a week being commonplace. There are demands from a number of areas such as the need to make decisions on finance and the structure of the curriculum. Academics may also work as consultants or appear in the media. More pressure is likely in the 21st century as computer power spreads. Academics find that they are short of time, and it is not easy to increase productivity, especially if it is measured in degrees awarded and students taught.
