Public research funding is again concentrated in the heavyweight research universities, with Cambridge, Manchester and Oxford universities, Imperial College London and University College London (UCL) doing well across all research councils. UCL is the top grant holder, with 51, followed by Cambridge with 46 and Imperial with 43.
