Ban slapped on use of UfI name
Article Abstract:
Colleges and universities have been forbidden to use the term 'University for Industry' (UfI) and have been forced to remove the term from advertising campaigns for development projects. The Department for Education and Employment aims to protect the brand name, but colleges and universities claim the move will eradicate their marketing efforts. The UfI scheme is backed financially via the 70 million pounds sterling 'Adapt' European fund.

Newport spat could set legal precedent
Article Abstract:
Environmental management students at the University of Wales Newport may take legal action against the university after it cut teaching contact hours by 50 percent after a decision to wind down the course. The university could be taken to court for allegedly failing in its 'duty of care' and it duty to provide the promised level of education.

Alan Gilbert, the president of the University of Manchester, believes that the teaching quality in elite universities is declining since academics favor research over interacting with students. Several proposals to reverse this situation of student neglect are discussed.
