Final stage of a long labour
Article Abstract:
The four PhD students being followed by The Times Higher are now considering their next career moves in the final year of their PhDs. Helen Taylor has had to take a break in studies as she had a baby, while Jane Suter expects to complete her thesis by September 2006. Lisa Willats needs a further eight months to finish and write up her research, hile Alisa Chukanova must complete the first draft of her thesis by September, completing the final version in February 2007.

Ancients battle for survival
Article Abstract:
Universities are working with employers to develop business-focused degrees that enhance graduate employability in industries such as computer games technology and hospitality management. Hence, traditional university subjects such as English, physics and classics are being re-packaged to make them more vocational and attractive to students, in addition to providing intrinsic educational value.
