Islam under siege; a new history attempting to correct misapprehensions about the Islamic world
Article Abstract:
The Salman Rushdie affair and the Gulf War have focussed on Islam in a negative way according to some observers. A "History of the Islamic World" which will cover the period from AD 570 to the 1940's is being planned to give background to Islamic life and culture. The Islamic religion is the second largest in Britain, and is well represented in Europe also. The new history will have a place for women's studies within it.
