Encounters of an unfair kind
Article Abstract:
An analysis of teaching quality reviews of United Kingdom universities by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) has shown that old universities tend to score higher marks, as is true of small subject areas. Subjects that are not taught by many institutions tend to have relationships between reviewees and reviewers that are more intimate. The larger subject areas, such as media studies, tend not to score as highly. Program review director of the QAA, Peter Milton, argues that older universities tend to perform better since they have more resources.
