Blue wails in sight
Article Abstract:
The UK Conservative Party is likely to lose the next election following a defeat in April 1996 in a byelection. Governments often lose byelections only to regain support prior to a general election, and this occurred in the UK in 1983, 1987 and 1992. The fall in popularity in 1996 is deeper than previously, and the drop has lasted for longer. Unemployment and interest rates have dropped, but voters do not feel secure in their employment, and there has been a loss of confidence in the government's ability to manage the economy.

Anyone got an A-Z?
Article Abstract:
In May 1998 Tony Blair assembled a group of British academics to discuss a new political philosophy, dubbed the 'Third Way'. The meeting, dubbed Number 10, is to be held monthly to discuss a variety of subjects relating to the 'Third Way'. The group, which featured members of the think-tank Nexus, failed to reach a consensus on plans for a new political philosophy, with some arguing that a new concept is not required.
