Branded an outcast
Article Abstract:
Self-proclaimed scientific racist Christopher Brand was dismissed from his post as a psychology lecturer at Edinburgh University, Scotland, on Aug. 8, 1997, following a year of controversy. Edinburgh University stood by Brand's right to freedom of speech in Apr. 1996 when he was quoted in newspapers as saying that black people were less intelligent than whites. However the university's disciplinary tribunal felt that certain aspects of his subsequent conduct, notably his suggestion in an Internet newsletter in Nov. 1996 that some forms of child sex were not harmful, were disgraceful.
