Poetic licence denied
Article Abstract:
The estate of deceased Poet Laureate Ted Hughes has refused to give permission for Hughes' poetry to be reproduced in an article by academic Anne Whitehead, even though the article was favourable towards Hughes. The restrictions have been criticised by some academics as constraining intellectual exchange, particularly as Hughes publisher, Faber and Faber, refuses to reveal details of the contexts for which permission would be granted. Faber claims Hughes' family has the ultimate right to approve reproduction.
