Article Abstract:

An analysis of Western European attitudes towards Eastern Europe and how these could change following the accession eight new Eastern European countries - Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania - to the European Union on 01 May 2004. It is suggested that at present, those in the West tend to lump all Eastern European countries together in one group, dominated by the idea of Russia, and it is hoped that in the future a more balanced view of Eastern European countries will develop.

All eyes are on Bergen for some 2020 vision

Article Abstract:

Ministers from all over Europe are to meet in Bergen, Norway, to discuss the progress of the Bologna Process, which has brought together 45 countries with the aim of establishing an European Higher Education Area by 2010. As substantial progress has been made in the aims of the Bologna Process and it appears that European higher education should improve noticeably by 2010, ministers will need to begin to consider what direction to take after 2010.
