Clever is as clever does
Article Abstract:
University business management and psychology courses are increasingly focusing on the concept of 'emotional intelligence' (EQ), with EQ perceived as more important than IQ as the key to achieving success in life. Teenagers Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, who massacred pupils and a teacher at Columbine High School, CO, were considered highly intelligent but lacked emotional development. Author and psychologist Daniel Goleman believes the primary factors in EQ comprise communication skills, relationship management, empathy, self-motivation, emotional management, self-awareness and personal style.

War on red tape in city of angels
Article Abstract:
Thailand is considering higher education reforms as a tool for economic development, with the move welcomed by most academics and politicians. Insitutions are being encouraged to increase their research output, with surveys showing that some private institutions are investing under 16,666 pounds sterling on research. The government is proposing to make the country's 22 public institutions autonomous by 2002. Some critics claim the reforms will be uneffective due to a lack of leadership, with the universities hindered by excessive bureaucracy.
