Article Abstract:
Some academics suggest they are asked to give their opinions in the media because they are seen as knowledgable and unbiased. Academics do not receive large monetary rewards for appearing on television or on the radio. Sky News pays 50 pounds sterling for an interview. A number of academics enjoy the challenge of giving an spontaneous response to media questions and to having their views printed almost instantly unlike their research, which may take years before being printed. Other academics point out appearing in the media may lead to more opportunities to do research work.

Odds in the game of life
Article Abstract:
Some statisticians believe that a largely accurate scale for assessing the risks people take can be drawn up. Others support the view of social scientists and psychologists that there are dangers associated with attempting to establish a risk scale. Existing risk scales are effective where an average risk must be calculated, but it can be very difficult to define the odds when fluctuating predictions are involved. Psychologists and social scientists believe that risks are expressed through cultural filters, with some risks being regarded as good and others as bad.

It's a family affair... but what is a family?
Article Abstract:
Many researchers try to predict future changes in the make-up of the family. Some researchers point out attitudes to the family have not really changed although the number of marriages in England and Wales, between the early 1970s-mid 1990s, decreased by 40%. It is anticipated some 40% of marriages will end in divorce by 2030. Researchers suggest in the future there will be a number of elderly men who are excluded from family life. Although they feel blood relationships would still remain very important.
