Condensed spirit of haiku
Article Abstract:
Haiku originated in Japan with the purpose of giving an account of an intense experience and insight and communicating it to another directly. Such conveyance should be as unmediated as possible. It has come to mean a style of poetry or prose that uses a minimum number of words. It is considered that, with the amount of information now available and competing for our attention, haiku be extended into many other fields such as science and technology. Theses and other works would then have a more disciplined impact.

Buccaneering spirit in Bradford
Article Abstract:
Bradford and Ilkley Community College, England, offers flexible courses to cater for the needs of students. The college was set up in 1982 as the result of mergers, and includes higher education students. There has been an emphasis on quality, and on the provision of support for students, such as help with study skills. The size of the college helps in the range of services that can be provided, but the college's status as a further education institution means that there are some restrictions on access to funds.
