Academics earn more per hour than the majority of other highly qualified workers, but put in more overtime than most other professionals in the public sector, according to a report by academics at the Institute of Education and Reading University Business School. Higher education academics get paid more than lawyers, accountants and pharmacists, but less than dentists and doctors.

Juggling staff have crisis of identity
Article Abstract:
Delegates at the Higher Education Academy's annual conference have heard that academics are facing an identity crisis as they juggle so many roles that they are no longer sure how to respond to the question of what job they do. Many people on academe struggle to define what they do and this partly blamed on the lack of a professional body for academics.
