Developing a million-pound drug habitat

Researchers at the multi-million pounds sterling Strathclyde Institute for Biomedical Sciences at Strathclyde University, UK, believe interdisciplinary collaboration will be greatly enhanced now the departments of physiology and pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences and immunology are housed adjacent to eachother. The university earned 25 million pounds sterling in royalties during 1990-1999, primarily through drug discovery. The research unit designs, studies and standardises new chemicals, analyses possible side effects and determines the appropriate drug delivery procedure.

Athens of the north or just another pretty face?
Article Abstract:
Edinburgh is regarded as the second financial centre of Britain by some, home of varied businesses, arts activities and wealth. The city is strong in the financial sector, and has benefited from recent London City scandals. There are so many financial services that a new area of the city has taken the overflow. Over 120,000 square metres of office space are being built to house extra businesses, and Edinburgh is now applying for consideration as the site for the European central bank. The city needs to overcome infrastructure problems to be considered.

Seven up to meet challenge
Article Abstract:
Seven Uk medical schools are introducing computers and related technology for their students. There is concern over students having to memorise too many facts, rather than problem-solving. Computers can help student manage their learning, monitor their own performance and assess progress. Graphics and video can be used with text to teach students about the progress and outcome of various disorders.
