Lovelorn and passion spent
Article Abstract:
The Erasmus scheme, which encourages students to take courses in European countries other than their own, organised a seminar on Romanticism in Naples in Apr 1992. The ideals of Romanticism were felt to be allied with those of the Erasmus project which emphasises pan-European transfers. It is akin to a single market in education, and is aimed at getting young people used to moving round Europe. It is being used as a pilot project for a European Credit Transfer System, and students are encouraged to join the life of the host institution.

A benchmark for the people
Article Abstract:
Some higher education institutions have been critical of the Investors in People scheme which aims to encourage improvements via assessment, partly because of the perceived impact on the institution's autonomy. Further education institutions have been more welcoming to the scheme, with 84% of colleges participating in 1998. Some observers claim further education is less concerned by external assessment than higher education, with further education keen to be recognised as pursuing a quality standard for its people.
