Picasso's conscience
Article Abstract:
John Richardson came to know Pablo Picasso well from around 1952. Picasso sought to recreate anxiety which he felt he had lost through perfecting his technique. Picasso has been accused of misogyny, yet his attitudes came from Andalusia, Spain, whre he was born in 1881. It is not useful to apply cultural judgements of one era to behavior of people from another era, Richardson argues. Picasso was affectionate and compassionate as well as being a misogynist.
