Article Abstract:
Universities in the United Kingdom are sinking into a state of nationalised mediocrity and students could soon be joining academics and turning their attention to the United States. It is argued that despite the hollow propaganda put out by front organisations for British higher education about how good the state of affairs is, people in the US have noticed the flood of good scholars from the UK across the Atlantic to join universities that are properly funded and are wondering about the way second or third-rate people are given posts with tenure at British universities. More worrying still, it is suggested, is the prospect that decent students in the UK could follow their professors and leave UK universities to sink further into mediocrity.
