From gemstone to millstone: marriage is bad news for women's careers
Article Abstract:
Marriage can cause women's careers to decline according to research by the Essex Research Centre using data from the British Household Panel Survey. It found that husbands and wives have similar occupational status when first married, but spouses careers diverge during the marriage, sometimes due to the status difference. A wife's occupational status gradually lowers as a result of the distribution of domestic responsibilities.
