'Interesting thought is in science. That is where things are discovered.' (John Carey, Oxford University's Merton professor of English literature)(Interview)
Article Abstract:
People who study the arts often have a superior attitude about science, while scientists sometimes lack knowledge of culture. This is a very misguided approach, according to John Carey, Oxford University's professor of English literature. He has recently edited a collection of science writing, and believes that scientists are the new literary intellectuals, not literary experts. Along with a number of other academics, he feels that science is influencing intellectual developments, not philosophy or literature.

Buddy, spare some time
Article Abstract:
US colleges and universities are checked every ten years to ensure that they are offering good-quality courses. The evaluators consider all aspects of courses and interview academics, students and administrative staff. They audit the whole college, subject reviews are done separately. The resulting reports are sent to the colleges and can be published. The UK idea of linking funding to quality is not accepted in the US as being workable.

A voice for lost innocence: for over 20 years some 100 children in one county were sexually abused while in care
Article Abstract:
The Jillings report into institutional abuse in children's homes in Clwyd, north Wales, was not published, after Clwyd councillers were informed that publication would lay it open to claims. Jane Tunstill, a member of the independent inquiry, believes that it would have been in the public interest to publish the report. The report criticised all the agencies concerned and called for an inquiry into the police investigation.
