For academics, rejection, be it of an article, book or anything in which time and effort has been invested, is an occupational hazard. The trick for academics is to not take the rejection personally - it is unlikely that there is an academic in existence who has not had something rejected, so it is unlikely that somebody is picking on you alone - try and find out why the piece was rejected and learn from the experience.

Academics are advised to deal with the increasing piles of books and papers that are stacking up in their offices by periodically getting rid of the things that they do not or are not likely to use. It is suggested that by clearing out their offices in this way they might actually begin to feel better about their workplace.
