The practical lessons that can be learned from the research on peace education in the region of an intractable conflict are highlighted. It provides several directions to increase potential of carefully designed peace education programs that are likely to foster participant's ability to acknowledge the adversary's collective narrative and engage in constructive negotiations over issues of national identity

Conflict, contact and education in Northern Ireland

The educational responses to the conflict in Northern Ireland designed to promote intergroup harmony are outlined. Research about the impact of these programs on children and young people is reviewed to draw conclusions for practitioners in formal and informal educational settings who want to use intergroup contact to implement education for peace in the most effective way.

Bringing peace to the central city: Forgiveness education in Milwaukee

A forgiveness education program designed to help the children in the central city of Milwaukee is described. It is concluded that the children participating in this program should have the knowledge and skills to achieve peace in their own lives and to promote it within and between persons and communities.
