Let me count the ways
Article Abstract:
France has a number of arguments to support its decision to continue its programme of nuclear tests in French Polynesia in the face of intense worldwide opposition, but its defence would have been more acceptable had the tests been carried in France rather than in the South Pacific. France argues that it, and Europe as a whole, needs an effective nuclear deterrent. France also points out that it is willing to share data on the nuclear tests, which its military experts maintain are necessary on safety grounds, with some of its allies that have nuclear programmes.

Hot air and global warming
Article Abstract:
It is uncertain as to whether conferences on global warming can achieve anything. Fundamental issues may be left undecided such as carbon dioxide emissions, left unresolved after a conference in Berlin, Germany, in April 1995. Global warming is perceived as a world problem and there are arguments that the problems has been exaggerated. The cost of preventing global warming is high. Some critics argue that there is no solution to the problem since developing nations do not want to be bound by agreements limiting emissions.

Hot tips for a tardy planet
Article Abstract:
Global warming is the subject of debate, but it appears that predictions are coming true on this issue. There have been droughts in Africa and natural disasters have increased as average annual temperatures have risen. The changes are occurring too slowly for policy makers to be stimulated into action. Few groups are seriously interested in this problem. Groups which are concerned include environmentalists and insurers, but otherwise the issue simply tends to be debated rather than action being taken.
