Making good neighbors: democracy and the national interest
Article Abstract:
The US makes it a policy to support new democracies in any part of the world. However, democratization does not end with elections as the next step involves helping poor countries develop market economies to reduce poverty and stagnation. An increase in democratization makes the US more secure.

Debating democracy: choosing American foreign policy
Article Abstract:
US foreign policy is geared towards the promotion and preservation of democracy. Efforts toward world democratization, however, have been losing the support of intellectuals and policy makers. Failure to support and strengthen foreign policy may result in a nondemocratic global environment.

False assumption? Democratization and war
Article Abstract:
Bill Clinton's foreign policy rests on the assumption that democratization is an instrument of peace because it makes countries less prone to engage in war. However, historical evidences suggest that countries undergoing the transitional phase of democratization face a higher risk of war.
